Ingredients
  

Bread Base:

  • Italian hoagie rolls or sub buns 4 rolls
  • Sub: Ciabatta or baguette
  • Meats per sandwich:
  • 6 slices Genoa salami
  • 4 slices Capicola or hot ham
  • 6 slices pepperoni

Cheese (per sandwich):

  • 2 slices provolone cheese
  • Sub: Mozzarella or cheddar

Veggies & Add-ons:

  • Banana peppers or pepperoncini a few slices per sandwich
  • Thin-sliced red onion
  • Tomato slices for topping after baking
  • Shredded lettuce for topping after baking

Spreads & Seasonings:

  • Italian dressing or olive oil & vinegar mix
  • Garlic butter optional, for brushing rolls
  • Dried oregano
  • Crushed red pepper flakes
  • Salt and black pepper

Instructions
 

. Preheat Oven

  • Set to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.

Slice & Prep Rolls

  • Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving a hinge intact. Drizzle inside with Italian dressing.

Layer the Fillings

  • Start with provolone slices on the bottom.
  • Layer meats: salami → capicola → pepperoni.
  • Add banana peppers, onions, and season with oregano, red pepper flakes, and salt/pepper.
  • Tip: Don’t overfill — balance flavor and structure.

Bake the Subs

  • Place open-faced subs on baking sheet.
  • Bake 10–12 minutes until cheese melts and edges toast.
  • For crispier tops, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.

Add Cold Toppings & Serve

  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  • Top with shredded lettuce and tomato slices.
  • Press gently, slice, and serve while hot.
