Ingredients
  

For the Blackberry Syrup:

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries or thawed frozen blackberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar adjustable
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest preferably from organic lemons

For the Lemonade Base:

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice about 6-8 lemons
  • 4 cups cold water or sparkling water for a fizzy version
  • Ice cubes

For Garnish:

  • Fresh blackberries
  • Lemon slices
  • Fresh mint sprigs

Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare the Blackberry Syrup

  • In a medium saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, water, and lemon zest.
  • Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes until the berries release their color.
  • Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Strain the Blackberry Mixture

  • Place a fine-mesh strainer over a large bowl or pitcher.
  • Pour the syrup through the strainer, pressing on solids to extract all the liquid.
  • Discard or save the leftover berry pulp for another use.

Step 3: Make the Lemonade

  • In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice with the strained blackberry syrup.
  • Add 4 cups of cold water and stir well.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.

Step 4: Chill and Serve

  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
  • Fill glasses with ice and pour the lemonade over.
  • Garnish with fresh blackberries, lemon slices, and mint sprigs.

Notes

  • Sparkling Blackberry Lemonade: Replace half the water with sparkling water.
  • Herbal Twist: Infuse fresh lavender, rosemary, or thyme while making the syrup.
  • Frozen Version: Blend the lemonade with 2 cups of ice for a slushy drink.
  • Spiked Blackberry Lemonade: Add 1.5 oz of vodka, gin, or rum per serving.
  • Tropical Version: Add ½ cup coconut water and ¼ cup pineapple juice.
